Ragazzi Da Peppone

We visited Ragazzi da Peppone in La Rochelle to celebrate my birthday (20 July), and unfortunately the experience was disappointing. Before we ordered, my husband politely asked a member of staff if the restaurant did anything special for birthdays, or if they could make the occasion a little more memorable. The response was simply that they “don’t do anything like that here,” with no attempt to offer even a small gesture or make us feel welcome. This was particularly disappointing given that the Groupe Peppone website speaks about values such as generosity, family, and creating “the best possible moment” for guests, stating that generosity means “giving more than necessary” and that the intention is for customers to enjoy the best experience possible. Sadly, our experience did not reflect those values. We also noticed there was no children’s menu, which made the restaurant feel less family-oriented than we had expected. I do want to recognise one member of the team – a gentleman of Asian origin – who was genuinely friendly, helpful, and courteous throughout our visit. He was the highlight of the service. Overall, however, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming, and there was nothing that made a birthday celebration feel special. It’s a shame, because hospitality is often about the little touches that leave a lasting impression. Based on our experience, the service did not live up to the values the restaurant promotes.

Having been customers of this restaurant for the past four years, we were very disappointed this time by the pizzas, or more precisely, the pizza dough. It was very dry and brittle; it seemed stale. No desserts with ice cream were available... apparently a technical problem. We're not sure we'll be going back.

Very poorly received

I returned to this restaurant a year ago, and it was very good. We asked to reserve a table, but it wasn't possible; it was first come, first served, and the food was much worse. When we asked them to lower the awning to protect someone, they told us it wasn't possible due to the rules of the city of La Rochelle. What a shame! We won't be returning to this restaurant. And the knives were useless, not even for a pizza.

Hmmm.... I'm unsure how to rate this establishment because they don't even have a drinks menu. So how are you supposed to know what to order for a drink. Albeit we ordered a bottle of Italian rosé which was ok and not overly dear. But I absolutely would have preferred a pint of peroni on draft.... What is wrong with these establishment a drinks menu should always be available even if on a chalk board. It's unusual especially for diners on holiday. Or am I missing something. Our food was expensive and tasteless. We ordered Spag BOL which had little to no meat in every bite to consider it was a bolognese sauce very poor watery with no flavour other than copious amounts of parasan cheese I added and my husband's caborna again had runny white cheese running through it and again watery & salty with no flavour from the very little bacon in it. Pasta was overcooked therefore it became very sogdy and very underwhelming. We absolutely wouldn't eat here again as much better pasta at another establishment on the water front that was far superior and cheaper.

We vomited that night after eating at this restaurant. The Bolognese pasta was tasteless and the sauce was watery. The same went for the tortellini. The prices seem reasonable until you see the small portions. We were still hungry after dinner. The service felt rushed. We weren't comfortable.

We came on Saturday evening, it was nice, the servers were very good, we had beers and charcuterie platters plus other things, everything was very good, thank you, we will come back
